AE and FCP – new file looks worse than original!!
I tried a search with no luck, so hopefully someone can help me. I’m using AE 6.5 and FCP 4.5.
Basicall I’m color correcting and adding a few effects.
OK – here’s the specs: I shot on an F900 – Down Converted to DVCam and Captured in FCP. So, using the Quicktime created by FCP, I import the original into AE and add some flashing in the windows with masks, take out a seam in the set wall, yada yada, nothing too extreme. Then I tried every way known to man to export or to make movie and it comes back into FCP looking worse than before it left. So is there a way to prevent this? Are my settings off? I’ve tried different compressions and nothing seems to work. Am I SOL? What would be the right settings to take this DVCam Footage 720×480 and no loose resolution between the programs.
HELP!!!!

Well, unless you render to an uncompressed format, you’re bound to have some generation loss, possibly a slight colourshift.
However, What’s probably happening is that the DV footage’s been imported as Lower fieldsinterlaced, but is rendered out without fields. You’re ending up with half the vertical resolution;
If your footage is non-interlaced, interpret it as such, if it is, also render out as upper field interlaced.
