AE Allocating Memory Error

Good day all,

I recently built a new computer, and with that i thought it was time to move from AE CS4 to CS6. Well thats having some problems for me. I am keep having a RAM error, which I think I shouldn’t get. These are my system specs;

i7 3770
GTX 660
12GB RAM

When i start after effects the RAM usage is about 30% on my desktop but the longer i’m in after effects it keeps building up till a 100% and then it crashes giving me this message;

“after effects: unable to allocate 0,002 MB of memory. Either decrease the memoty requirements for the rendering of this frame, or install more RAM.”

I think 12GB should be okay? I ran CS4 with 8GB.. Also the thing is that in de memory settings i located 8gb of the total 12gb to AE but in the rendering orocess of a simple video it crashed while AE was using 11.2 GB :S How can that happen? It can only use 8GB. Does anyone know how to stop it from crashing, i’m really desperate because i need to make a video for someone with a deadline, thanks!

That’s strange — what’s going on in the comp? What kinds of footage and effects?

Can you post a screenshot of your memory & multiprocessing settings?

Have you tried resetting your preferences by holding Ctrl+Alt+Shift (Windows) or Command+Option+Shift (Mac OS) while the application is starting?

Well the comp was the easiest possible. 2 Avi’s and 1 text layer.
I’ll try to reset is that way, hope it works..

Can it be something with my GPU drivers or maybe because it is installed on a SSD?

Well i’ve updated AE, added my GPU to the supported OpenGL list, changed my setting according to this: https://www.studio1productions.com/Articles/AfterEffects.htm and tried to reset my preferences.. nothing worked.

But the thing is, it works for like 10 minutes on a stable 6.9 / 7.1 GB RAM, which seems normal to me.. but suddenly it starts growing up to 11 GB.. Its freaking me out because I need to render a video for a party next month :(((

please help!

Someone sayed that re installing AE would help, would it?

Unfortunally not.. I have to work around it. Sometimes it holds on longer than other times 🙁

I have the same problem, but worst!

it happens everytime I try to ram preview every kind of footage.

AE CC 13.5.0
OS X 10.10.5
