AE 8.01 for Mac – open GL
Posted by Craig Wall on August 21, 2007 at 12:11 amI just downloaded the Adobe update and purportedly something is addressed in OpenGL with this new update.
Mac users could be happy…
I’ll update in a moment….

August 21, 2007 at 1:09 amSo far 8.0.1 is a good news/bad news proposition
For whatever reason I’m getting MUCH better rendering.
The bad news is that I can’t do a RAM preview at all! Somebody missed quality control with that bug!

August 21, 2007 at 2:58 amI don’t see any mention of this update on Adobe’s website. Is this available via the Updater application only?

August 21, 2007 at 6:02 amThe global Adobe auto updater popped up on my screen and said,
“Goodies for you Today!” (something like that)
I clicked to see what was the fuss and the magic box said, AE 8.01.
There was only the tiniest description in the dialog box of what was new but it did reference something about OpenGL.
Three minutes later I was updated and re-launched and I confirmed in AE’s preferences that I COULD enable Open GL!

August 21, 2007 at 4:41 pmi’d like to use open GL but not being able to ram preview is pretty severe upgrade bug, kind of makes it unuseable doesn’t it? did you find a work-around for that or were you able to uninstall the upgrade back to 8.0? just wondering, anyone else upgrade with that same no ram preview problem?

August 21, 2007 at 8:08 pmAFX CS3 8.0.1 does shows up on my adobe updater and says it “addresses issues with MP4 import and export. in addition this update addresses OpenGL issues on supported video cards.” not a mystery update but still one i’m reluctant to mess with in light of your ram preview issues. any further insights into that little gem.

August 21, 2007 at 9:58 pmHi All –
Just to confirm I have installed this update on 4 of our machines. (2 Mac Pro, 1 MBP, 1 G4) and it enabled Open GL on all.
Ram preview is still working fine for me.
Cheers

August 22, 2007 at 12:34 amI am able to RAM Preview — with the exception of one of my files.
Go figure. I like the upgrade so far–seems a lot faster.
