I tried the import as GIF trick. Very nifty. It stopped all of the freezing. However I had some weirdness with transfer modes. I set the clip to “Color Dodge” at 70% opacity. It looked fine as I was working and previewing, but on the final render it acted as if it was set to “Normal”, darkening everything below it. The really weird thing is that it rendered properly in 1 instance in the Comp. Possibly something to do with layer order?

“When you go to Import Footage dialog, you’ll see an “Enable” menu on top. Change it to “all files”. After you do that, a format menu will appear on the lower part. Select the file(s) you want to import and change the format from Quicktime to GIF.”

can you reload problematic footage with the GIF setting or do you have to import a new clip and replace footage?

btw, on a mac pro 2.6 quad, 4 gigs of ram, OS 10.4.9, NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT, qtime7.1.5, i have stuttering, freezing frames, bad audio sync, 20 sec delays on playback of previews, general slow performance, difficulties with apple photo jpeg movies, no audio solo, purging every five minutes, and 1 minute quits to restart. it renders simple stuff quickly with the multi-processors on but is actually quite difficult to do real work with, toss-up whether it’s any better or worse than afx7 on the intel mac right now, both are pretty bad. it does have a puppet tool and they did say it was beta.

You have to re-import footage and replace.
Of course, this won’t be necessary for the final product. It’s just a workaround.

    What a comforting message.
It has been updated ast week. And from what I’m seeing, most users find these Quicktime-related issues are gone in Public Preview 2.
