ae 8 (CS3) back down to 7
Hi Guys!
OK.. I know it’s common that you cannot take a newer version’s file and open in older version software.. but is there a clever way to get mattes from a CS3 file into AE7 though? Should I just try exporting mattes from the bezier rotos I have in CS3 and import them as matte sequences for the artist who has AE7 only on his computer? Any other clever ideas? Help!

Why don’t you render the mattes out for the AE 7 user to import?
If you’re talking roto work with masks then you could render them out as is and the AE 7 user could Auto-Trace the alpha of the render. It wouldn’t be entirely precise, but it should work well enough.

There is a way to translate CS3 projects into AE7 projects.
Open CS3 project and a similar AE7 project in a text editor and change the things that are different in the CS3 project, save as .aep and open in AE7.But I think in your case it’s easier to do what Darby said.
