    Hey there

I’m pretty new to AE and had a question regarding the license and ways to learn the software faster.

is the following a legitimate use of the license:

AE 7 pro is installed on my main work station, can I deauthorise the serial number on my work desktop at night and authorise the same software on my laptop at to do tutorials etc away from work…

it seems to me like that would be ok as the one license is only authorised on one computer at the same time, though the actual software is installed on 2 machines.

is the serial number linked to my install CDs or does it just run from a database in the sense that any vaild serial number can activate any instance of AE installed as long as it’s only activated one at a time?

I really need to get up to speed in AE and being able to do tutorials at home would be a great help

    thanks

Adobe’s licensing scheme actually allows you to install AE on two machines: one at work and one at home. You’re not supposed to run both copies at the same time although there’s no technical mechanism to prevent this.

You can activate the software on 2 systems at any time without jumping hoops, the logic being that you can only work on one system at a time anyways. So you will have no problem working from home and at work. The activation is derived from the serial you enter during the process and a unique install identifier that the Adobe installer generates.

    thanks for the responses,

i have already tried to “activate” my laptop version but was prevented from doing so by the software’s protection, that’s why i thought it might be against the license. Maybe a clean install on my laptop would fix this issue?

    thanks

It’s unlikely that a reinstall will help, especially if deactivating AE on your work machine allows you to activate the copy of AE on your laptop.

What’s probably happened is that at some point one activation was used and not deactivated. If you ever installed and activated AE on another machine, or installed AE, didn’t deactivate, and wiped the hard drive, that would cause the activation to be spent and lost.

If neither of those scenarios sound familiar, you can try calling Adobe’s customer service line to ask how many activations have been used. It’s possible that somewhere in your current activation-deactivation-activation workflow, you accidentally lost one somewhere.
