AE 7.0 splash appears, looks busy, then disappears, but no launch, no error message.
Short of a fresh install, any ideas?

If it has a chance to display what it’s doing (“initializing fype engine”, “Scanning folder:”, etc.), see if there is a clue in what it’s doing right before it dies.
Check for a font problem — when I first started messin’ with AE7 a bad font crashed it.

Remove the OpenGL3D plug-in from the Plug-ins/Standard/Extensions folder. If that works, update your video card drivers, then put the plug-in back.

I do believe ‘OPENGL3D’ appeared in the last microsecond of splash-life. I will try your suggestions. Many thanks for both of your replies.

    Timothy,
Your procedure solved the problem. Excellent. Thank you.
