Recently ( this has happened twice in as many months ) I have lost my preferences. It all goes sour when I start up and see the ugly white old interface. I have a charcoal setting so this alerts me that I am working in a virgin AE without any of my settings. This is very annoying. All my render queue settings, monitor, memory are all reset to starting settings. I have now taken the precaution of saving a base set up, but it’s pretty screwy this should happen in the first place. I am using AE 6.5.1 on a mac running OSX 10.4.2. Anyone else had this happen to them

    regards

I don’t know why that could be happening but next time you have your preferences where you want them you can back them up. They are in a text file stored in Users>”your user name”>Library>Preferences>Adobe After Effects x.x Prefs. Make a back up copy of that file. When the program wipes out your current prefs you simply copy that file back to the same location. That should restore your prefs.

yeah I just did that and in fact I had old prefs from an old install that I used from another drive. However you lose your most recent jobs list which I use all the time. It’s a pain but at least I can get back to some sort of normality fairly quickly now. It happened again after I posted!
