Advice on license plate retouch
Hi,
I was hoping to get some feedback on how you would approach removing the type from the license plate in this sequence. Not sure the best way to go with the various light effects/flares going on here. The shot is only about 2 seconds but there is a lot going on around the plate.

I’m with Dave and Richard. On the clips, between the lights and the short duration, I can’t make out anything. I can sort of make out the plate on the stills, but I have to really make an effort and even then I’m not 100% sure of any letters. But I can tell it’s a Mini Cooper, so that’s one mystery solved.

I get it. Some clients are absolute about legal issues.
Does this work?
If so, all I did was track the car and I used that to create a moving matte for a blurred version of the license plate. The matte was basically a highly feather ellipse–there is so much going on and so much feathering that you can’t really tell the flares are getting softened in those areas.

Yes, you are the first person to actually acknowledge that it is a client thing, and you can see it more clearly on the pro res version of the file. Your solution is perfect, thanks. There are other more prominent shots of the license plate but this one had so much more going on around it.
