  • Advice on DV settings for project

I need advice on which DV settings to use when setting up a new project. I’m importing and capturing hdv footage. I notice there are several options for DV settings… dv24p, dv ntsc, pal and dvcpro and dvcprohd.

I set up one project as dv ntsc widescreen. I imported some hdv footage and as a test created an avi file. When I view the file at full screen I notice a bit of banding (for lack of a better word) in some movement.

I want to make sure that I’m using the correct settings before going any further.

    thank you.

DV NTSC widescreen just refers to 720×480 resolution, 1.2 pixel aspect ratio, 29.97 frames per sec.

What will affect the quality of your footage is not the project settings, but the codec settings used to import and export the AVI.

I’m not sure if downsizing HD footage to SD footage causes banding. Hopefully someone on the forum can educate us.

During your test, did you output the .avi and watch it on a standard def TV?

    thank you for the information.

No, I didn’t watch it on standard def TV, I just opened it in winamp on my computer.

Maybe the banding isn’t evident on a TV. You should check before pulling all your hair out! LOL
