Advice needed on Tape storage archive solution for edit suite
Hi,
I currently have the Synology DS1813 NAS server with a 22 terabyte capacity.
I want to start archiving various projects which I no longer need to access on a regular basis.
I have heard Tape Drive storage is the way to go but I don’t know what I need or how I can integrate it into my current set up.
I have 2 x 2.93 GHz Intel Core i7 27″ iMacs both with 16gb of RAM. They are connected via a gigswitch ethernet network which connects them to the NAS.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

you won’t want to hear this. You will say “isn’t there a cheaper way”. LTO is very slow, by the way.
Get an ATTO Thunderlink box that will go from Thunderbolt to MiniSAS. Yes – ATTO only, because other brands won’t see the HP Ultrium LTO drive. Then get software, like Tolis Group BRU, or Imagine Products PreRoll Post, that can work with the LTO.
Is all of this expensive – yes. Is there a cheaper way – no.bob Zelin
