I just upgraded my computer and I am not getting the best performance with HD editing that I feel I should. I have crossfired Raedon 5870s (1 gig each) video cards, 8 gigs of ram, and a 4.0 GHz processor. I have a 2 hour long raw 720p hd video clip. Its an mpeg4. I imported it and when I double click it and try to scrub through it to pull clips its really slow and choppy. This shouldnt be the case with a pc of this quality right? I am wondering if there are settings that I can change to fix this. I changed the optimize rendering setting to memory and I allocated 6.5 gigs of RAM to premiere but that didnt seem to help. I am using CS5. Thanks.

What is the drive you are using to store video clips?
Also, MPEG4 is not really so good as an editing format. I’d suggest converting to something more edit-friendly. You can get the Avid DNxHD codecs for free; that might help.
I’m sure there are other suggestions… anyone?

My drive is a 1TB internal SATA drive.
