  • advice for external enclosure & expresscard for 2009 17″ MBP?

Just bought the 1TB Crucial SSD and am looking for a fast but reasonable external enclosure & expresscard adaptor for my MBP (10x 10.6.8, 8GB Ram, Model 5,2). I’m looking at eSATA & USB 3.0 options and don’t mind spending more on the enclosure as can use with the next Mac (updated MBP or Mac Pro) I buy later this year. But, the adapter may be sold or get limited use then, so it’s harder to justify spending a whole lot on it. Guess it depends on FCP7’s compatibility, which is hard to predict.

For enclosures, I was looking at
    1) the FirmTek miniSwap/U3.
-Very fast USB3 (over 400 MB/s), but no eSATA option

    2) the OWC Elite Pro mini.
    – eSATA & USB 3.0 but USB 3.0 speeds almost half as fast as miniSwap/U3

    3) Oyen Digital Mini Pro
    – different models available. One has eSATA & USB 3.0
-USB 3.0 claims to be over 400 MB/s

There are Expresscard 34 USB 3.0 and eSATA options available from FirmTek, Sonnet, CalDigit Oyen Digital and many others. Since mine is an older MBP (mid 2009 17″, i.e. 5,2) some adapters seem to run slower. Very hard to find info though.

Any thoughts or recommendations? Thanks ahead of time for any help!
