Advice appreciated-Losing resolution when switching from MP4 to H.264
Hello everybody,
I am totally new at video editing, so please forgive my question if it seems elementary, or if I am not explaining myself correctly.
I have footage on my computer which is in MP4. It is crisp, and looks perfect.
I am trying to go from 3840 X 2180 in MP4 to 960 X 540 H.264
After rendering the footage, everything looks good, but not great.
Somehow my footage has lost a bit of the crispness. It appears in each of the videos I am rendering.
I am using After Effects CC.
Suggestions, and guidance will be greatly appreciated.

When looking at the downscaled footage, is your viewer at 100% or more?
Furthermore: what bitrate did you choose for the conversion? -
Viewer I believe is normal. It was saved onto my desktop and when I click on it, it plays.
I do need to clarify one thing (I did warn everybody I was new…so please forgive me.)
The person who had sent the video to me had it labeled at MP4, yet as I load the video into After Effects it displays at the top left where the video sits

:H.264So I am guessing this means it is already in H.264 which is still confusing me because I thought perhaps the footage was getting blurry do to a different codec.
Within the Composition box I have chosen “Square pixels” (Aspect ratio 16:9)
Full resolution 31.6 MB per 8 bpc frame.
