(FCP HD on G5 with ADVC plugged into TV Monitor through Scart (ie DV from Mac to ADVC then phono to Monitor through a scart adapter))

I’m sure this is a basic one but when I press play on my project it plays fine in the Canvas viewer but my monitor displays whatever frame was first up, just as a freeze frame. When I stop playing the programme, the image on my monitor changes to that on the timeline.

Is it just not refreshing with each frame or have I done something else wrong perhaps?

    Alex.

Check under view to see if all frames is selected.

    Have a wonderful day.

    Thanks for replying.

All Frames is selected, I’ve tried with that option off or on single frame. I’ve also tried changing the external type but that is also correct as is.

    Any other ideas?

Try clicking in the Canvas to view it and press Shift+Z which is the default size for the current size of your Canvas window.

Also have you selected Safe RT (RealTime) under the left button labeled RT in the timeline. Also try a lower setting for Playback Video Quality, perhaps Medium or Lower. Leave Record to Tape set to Full Quality.

Are these captured clips of imported clips?

Is the ADVC100 on a seperate firewire bus from any external firewire harddrive?

    Inquiring minds…

    hmm…

Shift+Z didn’t seem to do anything so I think I’ve already got the default size set (I’m afraid I’m new to FCP so I’m struggling with the interface slightly – I’m used to Media 100)

I’ve got Play Base Layer Only, Record To Tape (greyed out), Use Playback Settings or Full Quality in the RT drop down – had a fiddle with these but didn’t help.

Clips were captured using firewire from a baby HDV camera.

Have just put ADVC on a separate FW port so it’s straight into the front of the G5 (was originally going through a LaCie raid)

I’ve just had a look at the view settings in A/V Settings_A/V Devices and if I deselect “Mirror On Desktop” then the monitor plays quite happily…but now the canvas doesn’t play!

Even though you have multiple firewire ports–800 Mbps and 400 Mbps–on a G5, they are all on the same port and will default to the slowest firewire device which would be the ADVC110–400 Mbps.

Seperate firewire bus would require an add-in firewire card.

Typo – the firewire ports are all on the same bus.

    Alex,

Many people here put their setup in their signature so people that view your post will have an idea where to start to give you help.

What are your timeline settings? Is the ADVC110 just for viewing in a external NTSC monitor?

    Don’t worry Mr. B. I have a cunning plan…

Sorry, setup was in the original post. (G5 Dual 2 with 2 gig of ram using FCP HD (ver1) and AE ver 6.0)

I’m using the break out box just to view FCP on a PAL monitor (I don’t edit using pictures on a computer screen)

Interestingly, After Effects can handle both on screen preview and TV screen preview simultaneously…
