  • Advanced Media Composer BCC/Sapphire/Avid Effects training?

Posted by Jason Wood on June 11, 2011 at 9:21 pm

Hello! Can anyone recommend a good online training course/video(s) for working with advanced BCC/Sapphire/Avid Effects techniques.

I’d like to better understand advanced keyframes, creating transitions with segment effects, creating and working with mattes, general tips, tricks and techniques on building graphic elements directly inside Media Composer, creating graphic elements with marquee, etc.

I’m working on a show that can be kind of graphic oriented at times and for whatever reason they do EVERYTHING inside MC with BCC, Sapphire, Marquee and Avid Effects…. No photoshop, ae, etc.

Moviola has a 16 hour course on advanced effects and working this way, but I’d like to find a video course I can do on my off time at the odd hours of the day. Any recommendation would be helpful.

    Thanks.

Lots of tutorials both on this site, and on the Avid site, but you’ll have to pick and choose.

I’m not sure there are any decent tutorials. I’ve been looking for years. Your best bet is to just jump in the deep end.

Most of the example videos on the bcc are laughable amature looking.

I find that half the effects I end up using lately or stock elements composited with the bcc composite effect using the screen or scale screen transfure mode.

    Things like this

They can sometimes make for some nice transitions and overlays.

you can download them by going to site like clipnabber.

    Hope that helps!

    Hey Jason,

I’m in a similar situation, wanting to learn advanced MC fx on my own time. Did you ever find a good online video program?

    Many thanks,
    Chris

    Hey Chris!

No, I haven’t found an all in one course. Someone should really write a book or make some videos on the subject. You can do a lot with BCC and Marquee, it’s convoluted but powerful and it can all be done with in the Avid.

Lately I’ve just been watching random tutorials and tinkering with effects and Marquee. I’ve taught my self several things through just trial and error. It’d be nice to just have a book on the subject though.
