I have an animation i’m trying to replicate, but I’ve encountered some issues in the advanced lightning. I am trying to simply get a ball with lightning streaming randomly from different points on the circumference of the circle. Here is the picture:

I think it is “anywhere” lightning, but I can’t figure out how to get it to branch with segments equal in width, and completely randomly. How would I animate it to get the interior lightning to move?

    Thanks

Make a circular mask on a solid, set it to subtract, and precomp the layer, then add the effect. Use alpha barrier at 100% to make the lightning stay inside the circle. You can wiggle the start point to get it to animate.

Do I use the anywhere strike setting? Because then the problem is that it originates from the center, as opposed to the circumference of the circle.

    Thanks

It will originate from the origin point, so put the origin point somewhere near the edge.

Worked like a charm! Many thanks!
