    Hi,
Got a system here that won’t let me update AE CS4 to 9.0.2. It’s a dual quad intel Mac Pro 3,1 10.5.7 We have a few systems with exactly the same configuration and same apps loaded, and upgrading to 9.0.2 wasn’t a problem for them.

CS4 installs ok, but when I run Adobe Updater, or download the updates manually from the Adobe site, I get a “Failed To Install” error for CSI, Soundbooth, Version Cue and AE. It’s AE thats the big problem because of the RED integration with 9.0.2. Photoshop, Illustrator and all the other Adobe Apps update fine

I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled CS4 3 times using Uninstaller and Clean Script levels 1, 2, 3 and 4, running each level multiple times and tried it after creating new administrator levels. All without any luck.

I have a case going with Adobe for it, and that’s been escalated to a senior technician, but even after talking to him I’ve had no luck.

Has anyone else run into this problem and found a solution for it? Hopefully not having to go back and do a complete reinstall of the OS.
    Thanks

i’m sure the adobe tech had you run through these already, but here’s what i would try:

    1. run the disk utility (applications>utilities) and perform a repair permissions and verify disk. if any error are found verifying, you’ll need to boot from the osx disc and run the disk utility form that (i think it’s under the tool menu).
    2. try installing ae or the update after booting in safe mode. to boot in safe mode reboot the mac, then right after hearing the boot tone, hold the shift key down until you see the gray apple logo. then run the installer.
    3. if safe mode doesn’t work, try creating a new user account. choose apple>system preferences, click the accounts icon and click the + button to add a new user (you may need to click the lock button and enter name/password to unlock these prefs). switch to the new user and try to install from that user account.
    4. the only other thing i can think of is that there is something, maybe a driver that is preventing the installer from working…. do know that all third-party drivers are not loaded, remove all third-party devices, including pci cards. without the hardware the drivers should not load. then boot in safe mode and try running the installer.

if i think of something else, i’ll post it.

Thanks, should have mentioned I did all that, except for #4. I’ll try that when I have a chance, but all our systems should be identical, I’ll see though, thanks

Since you mentioned levels 1,2,3,4, it sounds as though you’re using the CS3 clean script. I don’t believe the updated CS4 script has these levels.

I was actually told by customer support that CS3 clean script is still the preffered one o use for CS4, however I actually did use CS4 clean script one of the times.

If you ever have to use a clean script again, run the CS4 one, then the CS3 and you see how much was left behind by CS4 Clean Script

Did you find a solution to this? I am having the same problem! I cannot afford to wipe my whole system and do a clean install just yet.
