I’ve been working in Premiere Pro on a few projects now so am becoming more familiar but I continue to run into audio issues and wondered if anyone could help.

Right now, I’ve created Multicamera source sequences with 7 audio tracks and I’ve created timelines from these source sequences. I prepared the audio in each source file (audio files & footage files) by “Modifying” the audio to Mono just to make sure all tracks were set up the same and panned.

However, in my Source Sequences and in my Timelines, we are only getting audio from one speaker even though the raw audio file plays in both speakers when opened in Premiere. In the Track Mixer, the audio looks to be panned but it is not.

My first question is, why is this happening and what is a recommended fix? (Again, the raw audio file is fine, plays in both speakers, is panned when played in the Source Monitor but once we create a multicam source, it is only playing in one speaker.)

My other question is, in the Track Mixer, when I go into “Open Channel Output Mapping”, I can select “Output 1&2” for my Input 1 (this is my track 1 on my timeline) and then I have audio playing from both speakers BUT it is not clear if this fixed my problem or if I just designated track 2 in my timeline as my second channel. I have tried to find information/details in the Adobe manual but it’s hard to read and unclear. If this is a fix, great, but, frankly, I just don’t know what this mapping is doing exactly and I want to know EXACTLY what I’m doing when I add an output channel this way.

Thanks all! Any info on audio is great. This still seems to be a conundrum to many of those I work with as we continue to learn Premiere.

    Hi Elizabeth…

Why are there more than 2 sequences involved? (not meaning to sound negative…just trying to understand the approach)

usually you have a Multicam Source (where all cameras are synced)

and a destination timeline (where the Mulitcam sequecnes is placed as a nested clip and then multicam is enabled on that clip..to that source switching can be performed).

In the cases I’ve worked…I’ve found it easier just use the mulitcam source clip for the video switch…and then just copy all the synced audio on to the main timeline. (of course I’ve not had to deal with 7 audio sources in a multi cam either)

Then all you audio is right there in the master timeline, waveforms and all, to chop up to your hearts content after the fact…and it will probably be infinitely easier to export if you are planning to send stems or OMF or something to Audition or Pro Tools for final a mix.

I am aware that there are some audio follows video options in multi cam. I just haven’t used them…so you may be better off not listening to me if that’s the road you are intending to go down….

Oh, I simply created 3 source sequences for each of our 3 takes during filming just for organizational reasons. I then place all of these sources into one main sequence which I’m editing on now. I’m not having any issues with editing in multi cam, the syncing with audio is perfect and I love this about Premiere, my only issue is why my audio isn’t playing correctly.

I have 11 tracks of audio (6 lav mics, 1 boom, and 4 for each camera) and the audio is playing only out of one speaker in each track even though my raw audio plays out of both. Audio for all files is set to Mono and I just wondered if anyone had encountered this.

I am finding a fix right now by using my Track Mixer and re-mapping my output channels but I want to know exactly why this is working or how this feature works. I’m not exactly sure why it’s working. It’s a bit like being half-blind or just doing tests to see what will work when I want to know exactly why.

Hope this makes sense. Thanks for responding to my post!

I’m having the same issues with multi cam. the original audio plays both left and right speakers, but in multi cam only the left speaker has sound. I tried to start over and recreate the multi cam sequence, but the same thing happened.
