Hey everyone. I know there are a number of threads out that that involve this program freezing but none seem to be like mine, or at least that I have found.

Whats going on is that the system runs fine. I can edit, and edit quickly. I also will mention that I have avid on this very same system which handles some very intensive hd video edits and exports and has never frozen on me once. But Premiere, yikes. Most every time I try to render a large chunk of footage or export it using Adobe Media Encoder it will freeze on me. But its not just the program, I mean the whole computer will not move, mouse frozen, all that jazz. any audio thats playing just seems to repeat like a record skipping on like 4 frames of audio, sometimes there is no audio playing and I just hear a loud clicking when it freezes. And usual the only thing I have open is Adobe.

If anyone could help me it would be pretty awesome. It may have something to do with my virtual memory or settings in Premiere, I don’t know, i just thought I’d ask around.

    Hi Brian,

That loud click would be your hard drive. There could be a couple of reasons for that.

The first is that it’s power managed and shuts down when it’s not being used, only contains certain clips from your timeline and wakes up when those clips are accessed by Premiere. That would cause a momentary freeze of a few seconds while it syncs up.

You can change that in your control Panel > System > Power Options > Advanced settings. There you’ll see an option for turning off drives after a certain amount of time.

If you only have one drive, or those clicks happens quite often, look below.

It basically means it’s on its way out and I would recommend an immediate backup and a call to the manufacturer if it’s less that a year old for a free replacement.

When that happens, reboot and try rendering a smaller slice of the timeline. Don’t render large sections if that continues to happen.
