December 5, 2014 at 7:44 pmHi Bryce,
Thanks for the reply. I do think your request is a reasonable one. Many others have requested project sharing features, as well. I will continue to advocate for continued flexibility in project sharing in Premiere Pro.I don’t think the bright minds on the Premiere Pro team are done yet in this regard, but sorry that the application is currently not quite suited for your workflow needs.
Thanks,

December 5, 2014 at 11:54 pmHey Guys,
There’s a hack to open multiple instances of Premiere. These instructions are for AE, but it also works in PP: https://hints.macworld.com/article.php?story=20060713094900651
The file you’re looking to make an alias of is /Applications/Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2014/Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2014.app/Contents/MacOS/Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2014
Then you can Cmd-Tab between two (or three or however many) projects. It’s an off-label use, so proceed with caution. I haven’t had any issues though.

December 7, 2014 at 2:13 pmOnce you adapt to the workflow of CC, you won’t need to worry about multiple projects open at the same time. We used FCP for 11 years and multiple project workflow was a big part of our workflow for the final 3 years.
However 2 years into CC, we don’t miss that feature since we can browse through template projects and any other projects to simply move elements from one project to another.
There are other ways to work. What worked in FCP was nice, but trying to make CC completely like FCP completely misses the point that there’s more than one way to work. Yeah your workflow is going to change. Our 11 years of workflow changed drastically when we jumped to CS6. But with all the improvements Adobe has made in the past 2 years, having two projects open at the same time is no longer on our list of improvements we want from Adobe. The only people I really see who continue to ask for that feature are either just newly transitioned from FCP to Adobe or about to make that move.
It’s not a show stopper feature by any means.

December 8, 2014 at 3:37 pmI’m very interested in any suggestions on how to accomplish what I’m asking for with the PP workflow.
What is the Premiere way of handling approvals for 8 different projects, while working on 2 others, all at the same time? Seems to me the only option there is, is to shut down each one and open the next, 8 times.
I need the ability to show a timeline of promos to an approving producer, make a few changes if asked while they watch, then move on to the next. For me, and others who are requesting the ability to have multiple projects open at one time, it’s not about copying elements from one project to another to reuse them, it’s about workflow efficiency and speed of moving from project to project. The less time I spend getting in and out of a project, the more time I can be editing and that keeps my clients happy.
“trying to make CC completely like FCP completely misses the point that there’s more than one way to work. “
I’m not opposed to discovering new ways to work, but it seems like Adobe is taking a page out of the Apple book when Apple tried to push FCP X on us… FCP X was their “different way to work”. Some adopted the new Apple way, but I’d say the vast majority of facilities and shops with multiple editors did not.
I guess I’m just not understanding what is wrong with having several projects open at one time. It works. If it doesn’t work for others, then don’t do it, but for those of us that use that workflow, why not allow us to continue? (unless the point is to make PP different from FCP and that’s the only reason)
“having two projects open at the same time is no longer on our list of improvements we want from Adobe. The only people I really see who continue to ask for that feature are either just newly transitioned from FCP to Adobe or about to make that move. “You’re probably right about those asking for the multiple project ability.
To me, it seems like this feature should be a standard feature not one we need to request and beg for.
Help me understand the benefits of not having the ability to have multiple projects open at one time in a non-shared workflow environment (meaning only one person working on a project at a time).
I can understand the benefits when there’s multiple people on multiple projects and how messy that can get, but that’s a project management/workflow/SOP issue, not an issue software should take responsibility for.I wouldn’t call it a show stopper either. I’d equate it to having speed bumps in the road every 50 feet, or red lights every 50 feet… stop and go, stop and go, stop and go…. rather than having speed bump or red light every 2-5 miles.

March 23, 2015 at 10:08 amA little late to the party on this one but… The Media Browser import sequence feature is great, but sometimes you don’t want to bog down a project by importing an entire sequence into it. I’ve just written a quick tutorial on how to run multiple Premiere Pro projects at one time, from one click on the dock.

July 14, 2016 at 5:51 pmI’d like to run multiple instances on Windows. What would be the equivalent? I’m looking in C: > Program Files > Adobe > Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2015.3.
