When trying to render an After Effects composition in AME instead of AE (so I could continue to work in a different project in the meantime, one layer fails to render. It’s an Element 3D layer with an animated model. Everything else is in there, including whatever is directly below the missing object, it’s just this that fails to appear If I render directly from AE it renders fine, but takes a lot longer, not to mention I can’t work in the other project.

Anyone knows what can I do to fix this issue?

    That’s peculiar.

Element 3D renders via OpenGL on the graphics card — my guess is that its failure to render via AME is related to that.

Have you tried Lloyd Alvarez’s awesome BG Renderer script? I’d be curious if that would work better. There are two versions, Basic and Pro:

I haven’t. I own several of Lloyd’s scripts but not that one, I’ll check it out.

So here’s one other thing Adobe claims its software does but when you need it, it doesn’t.

    Thanks.

I just tried it here, and Element is rendering via AME for me. Perhaps it’s an Element issue. How much VRAM do you have on your GPU?

    I have 2gb.
I’ll check with VCP too, but there’s other E3D layers in the same file that are rendering ok.

2 GB is a respectable amount, but I still wonder if it’s possible you’re running out of VRAM and E3D is silently failing. Is the model on that layer extremely complicated, or does it have lots of big textures? Are you using supersampling?

It’s not overly complicated, a cell phone with three textures. But I’m using oversampling, when I render directly on AE it does render but takes roughly 13 minutes for 10 seconds, I render with caps lock on, so maybe I am running out of memory. It’s just weird because I’ve used far more complex models without trouble using E3D.
