Adobe Default Windows Sound Driver has taken over my PC!
I picked up a copy if Adobe Video Collection 2.5 recently and after installing it I now get errors about the Adobe Default Windows Sound Driver whenever I open any audio application like SONAR! What is Adobe doing messing with SONAR? More importantly, how do I uninstall this thing because it’s causing other audio applications not work that worked before I installed it.
I’ve done a few searches and have found others with the same problem but no resolution. I get the impression that it was Premiere Pro that is causing the problem but it’s hard to tell because I installed the entire suite, Premiere Pro 1.5, After Effects 6.5, Photoshop CS2, Audition 1.5, Adobe Bridge, etc so any one of them could have installed it and I’m not sure which one did.
Does anyone have any idea how to make it work or get rid of it? I just want my other applications work again.

One of the easy ways I do this is to open “Sound Recorder” – one of Windows basic sound recording programs – and go to Edit – Audio Properties. I’d then do a reboot and your problems should be fixed.

Wow Tom, that was like magic! There was one more step… I had to go into the Advanced properties and when I did, it was set up for 7.1 Surround for some reason (never was like this before). I set it back to Desktop Stereo and the errors went away. Thanks a lot!
I find it odd that this driver doesn’t show up in Windows as a sound driver yet my audio applications are picking it up. Also, I had SONAR set up to use the ASIO drivers on my M-Audio FW-410 and after doing the reset you suggested, SONAR was using the Adobe Default Sound Driver exclusively! I had to change the configuration back to use the M-Audio FW-410 ASIO driver again. Audio drivers don’t normally act this way so it apparently is somehow still taking over my PC but at least it’s not complaining. Very strange behavior.
