  • Adobe CS3 quick freezes? CTRL alt delete solution

    Hello everyone,

    I’m using a p6t delux v2 mobo, i7 920 in it. 6 GB ddr3 ram (heavy duty corsair i think?)and a GTX260 nvidia card. Win 7 64 bit.

Now today while i was editing on adobe premiere CS3, it would continuially freeze, but im talking the entire computer. Until! I hit ctrl alt delete and opend task manager, or hit cancel, then it would “unlock” the freeze, but shortly reapply it. if i would click anywhere on the adobe premiere or even try and hit quick launch icons it would just chime like its thinking. So im very lost and stressing out because of this project i have to finish ASAP and the small freezes are slowing me down as it happens often, dont think its software either.

If this isnt the best place for this topic mind pointing me else where? Thanks everyone.
I need to upgrade to CS5…. ASAP!

    Hi Justin,

It’s hard to tell, there are many reason why an OS will freeze, and some may even have nothing to do with Premiere itself.

Also keep in mind that CS3 was only meant to work on Windows XP. Any later OS may spell trouble.

I would first go to Start>run (or search in Vista/Win 7) “msconfig” and disable everything that’s not vital to running the computer (in most cases that means everything), then restart. keep in mind that this will disable the Antivirus. That brings me to the next point.

You really shouldn’t have an antivirus running with Premiere, at least not the realtime function, since it checks every file that’s currently being used (and we know how large footage files are).

Bring files through another machine if you are concerned about viruses.

Finally, how are your drives arranged, what type of footage are you working with?

Footage should be on a separate drive, not the same as the OS. If some of the footage is uncompressed, you’ll need a RAID array or you will get those frequent freezes while the drive catches up.

You can also try purging the renders and see if that helps.

Of course, there could be many other causes, update all your drivers as well if none of the above works for you.

Let me know how that works out.
