[Amanda Duff] “My son tells me Adobe After Effects is the best for editing xbox videos then putting on you-tube.”
After Effects is NOT for editing video. As the name implies, it is for adding special effects after your video is edited in some other program. I use Vegas and After Effects together all the time but you need both if you want to edit your videos. It’s important to note that you can do a lot of what After Effects provides right in Vegas Pro. It depends on what kind of effects your son is looking to add.
[Amanda Duff] “Cany anyone tell me about the differences as far as a 14yo know using it goes and a frustrated Mum who can only help so much with computer knowledge.”
After Effects has a one event = one track paradigm. So if your son has 100 events on a single track in Vegas. We will have 100 tracks in After Effects. That’s why I say it’s not a video editor. It’s too unruly for that. It’s really a special effects application. It does have the notion of an internal camera and lights which Vegas doesn’t have. So there are definitely things it can do that Vegas (or any other NLE for that matter) can’t.
[Amanda Duff] “We have old version of Vegas but with xmas coming up I”m trying to decide which is best.”
Ask your son what type of things he wants to do with After Effects and let us know. We’ll tell you if they can be done in Vegas or not and help steer you in the right direction.
