  • Adobe After Effects CS3 keeps crashing frequently

Posted by Dhinesh Kumar on January 23, 2009 at 10:25 am

    Hi,

We are using adobe after effects CS3 in our production system. From last monday, the after effects hung and the production comes to a halt. The frequency is high. When AE hangs, the nonresponsive program window with the “Send Error” and “Dont Send” buttons is displayed. Once we click the “Dont send”, the AE resumes to normal condition and continue processing the jobs.

When analyzed the windows event viewer, we have observed that the AE crashes with 2 different error code 1000 and 1002. Out of the total 12 crashes happened over the past 5 days, 10 crashes are due to error code 1000 and 2 crashes due to the error code 1002.

    System Configuration
The AE CS3 is installed in a Windows XP SP2 host available in a blade server (Intel based Dual Quad Core processor based) virtualized through VMWare. This particular host where CS3 is installed has 2GB RAM, 2 CPU of 2.5GHz each.

Given below is the complete snap shot of the 1000 and 1002 error from windows event viewer:

Has anyone come across the AE Crash with these error codes? Please provide us some info on what might be the reason and the solution.

    Thanks and Regards,

    Hi Dave,

Thanks for the response. We are not importing any of the file formats that you have mentioned in AE. But we do generate the mp4 and H.264 files as outputs.

The machine that crashes in our production system is not actually rendering the outputs. This system just modifies the aep file and adds the output files in the render queue through the .jsx scripts. We use network rendering capability of the AE CS3 to render the outputs through a set of rendering machines watching this shared folder in the network.

Moreover, the system has been in production for over 2 months. The crash started out of blue only from 18th Jan.

I’m wondering whether it could be due to any change in the network parameters in the production environment as our setup involves the network access.

    Thanks and Regards,
    Dhinesh Kumar P

in every instance of AE I have ever seen crashing and also being fixed is starting with a basic fresh install, no extra cards, accelerators, or 3rd party systems and then painfully adding each new 3rd party component back in one at a time, restarting and checking for stability. Everyone always finds out that it’s hardware based once the software is re-done.

I’ve had this issue for a long time as well and I’ve run the “death to Adobe” script (which removes every bit of Adobe software) and re-installed and still had a very similar issue to this. Also, I’ve had this issue most recently working with Targa image sequences, so, though the interlace thing is really helpful, it’s not really the source of my problems.

Did you ever find an answer to your issue???
