    Hello.

Recently I was working on a several hour long project (4hr 30min to be exact) and I just finished. I added comp to render queue, and just as I was selecting to make it a JPEG Sequence, After Effects “Encountered a problem and had to close”

So for seemingly no reason I lost 4 hours and 30min worth of work (you must understand how frustrating this is)

    I’m using CS3 with Vista x64.

Is there anyway possible to recover the lost data? The project was saved earlier on (about 10min after starting it)

    Thanks.

Assuming you didn’t enable autosave in preferences (a good idea), right? There’s still a bit of hope – After Effects tries to save a copy of the project when it crashes for some reason (this is not always possible).
These copies are called “After Effects Crash_1.aep”, “After Effects Crash_2.aep”, etc.
Right now, I am not in front of a Vista system to check where these would go. But you can perform a file search on your computer and see if you can find such a file, with today’s date.
I don’t think working for hours and hours without saving is a good idea 🙂

    I’m afraid it wasn’t found… sigh.

    No worries.

I’ve already starting working on it again, and who knows, maybe it’ll be better this time.

Call Tech Support and ask to escalate to Vinay.
