Adobe After Effects 6.5 Menu to Adobe Encore DVD 1.5.
Hey guys, I think my title says it all.
After several attempts to bring a single video in Adobe Encore DVD (you know, gotta be 780 or 704…/480) with a 16 bits audio, I finally exported a video in Encore. Wupy!
Okay, now I need to make a DVD Menu (my first time). My due date is pretty soon. I searched a lill’ in the COW archives, like always, and found a few responses from Mylenium. Watched Mylenium’s great tutorial again, but no one explained how to funtionnaly assign highlights or buttons in After Effects to Encore. Wheter previous post of guys weren’t answered at all, or they didn’t get a good answer. I just hope it will not be the case for this post.
What I understood is that I have to export my AE Menu in PSD files. Okay. Is there any tutorial on COW that shows the basic on how to work with AE and Encore, except Mylenium’s tutorial? If not, is what I wrote above okay? Does the PSD files have to be a certain size? Assign highlights, what is that suppose to mean? How do I do it?

Thx a lot! After spending an hour or 2 learning Encore DVD at Adobe’s website and here, I find Adobe Encore DVD simply amazing.
But one question tought, how can I animate buttons when we put our cursors on them with AE 6.5 and Encore? Is this possible? Assign hilights? Yes-no?

What I meant is that, in Encore, I want to have my buttons animate when my cursor is on them. Or simply have a square shape animate around the text chapter in my Encore Menu. Again, with After Effects 6.5 and Encore DVD 1.5.
I just can’t figure how to do it. Would be easy to do something similar in Photoshop, but it wouldn’t be animating. I’m pretty good with After Effects thought.
Since I’m pretty new to Encore, it would be very gentle if I had a well explained answer.

I don’t understand what you mean by “animating”. As per the DVD specs, subpictures for buttons are always static. You can have separate subpictures for each state of the button (the =1, =2, =3 designations in AE/ PS), but that’s pretty much it. All animation of the button itself must be baked into the background animation. If you want your buttons to do some funky stuff, you’d have to create separate transitioning clips and versions of your menu, use invisible subpictures (that conatin only transparent pixels) and work with the “auto-action” function to switch between those different menus, each with its own animated button element. While it works, it’s not really interactive (there is even more delay when switching than with normal subpictures) and it will also consume more space on the disc (because there is more footage just for menus).

Thx a lot Mylenium, I’ll try that.
What I meant by animated buttons is that, per example, when my cursor would be on a button, the button would grow and get blur edges…or have a square shape around, juste like in the “The Override Command Explained!” tutorial. I just thought I could assign highlights animations to my buttons using AE instead of a still highlights in PS. That would of been awesome.

What you describe is possible. However, it will become complicated. For every button you would have to create a highlight that would represent what you are doing. If you are interested, let me know and I can post a quick demo.
