I wanted to learn how to use adobe after effects with 3D stroke. The problem when I watched all of the videos and tutorials I thought great this looks easy I can create animated text and graphics that I could use in a module I am creating. But the more I try the more frustrated I am getting with after effects. Ya I hear what your saying well its for people who know what they are doing. I use photoshop, illustrator and flash. I am not a idiot for the record. My biggest frustration is the fact that no one has put out adobe after effects the basics or 3d stroke the basics. I am talking from the beginning with not going from one thing to another without some kind of explination. The problem is that people are not going from the start to end. They are jumping from one thing to another without showing you completely how to make say the compsition. When I try to move the slide bar there is no motion to what I am creating. I can manually do it by clicking on other things but not by using the play or slide bar. I have wasted a full day on just playing with after effects and watching tutorials and trying to mimic on what the others are doing. It doesn’t work. If someone have a basic tutorial on how to make this all work and I am talking beginning to end without jumping around to confuse me please tell me where to get it.

In the middle of your post, you say that “no one has put out adobe after effects the basics”.

I encourage you to check out the resources under the “Getting started” heading on the After Effects Help and Support page.

For the basics of Trapcode’s 3D Stroke plug-in… have you tried the material that Trapcode provides on their site?

I understand your frustration but please paragraph your posts.

You will not find a tutorial that takes you from the basics of AE right up to using a 3rd party plugin. If you need help getting started with AE, then look for basic tutorials for the software.

I humbly suggest that you eat some humble pie and learn the basics of AE before looking at effects/plugins. The COW has DVD tutorials for basic AE and there are books out there to get you going. And of course, due credit to Todd, the AE manual is actually one of the better software manuals out there.

Initially, I was going to ask if you had a specific issue with 3D Stroke but it is obvious that your first need is to learn some patience and to learn AE.

We all started with zero knowledge, just like you, and took our initial, gradual steps to learn the software. You should do the same.

We’re here to assist you in the best way we can, but we do require that you have some prior knowledge/experience and that you provide us with suitable information with which to work with, towards solving your issues.

Trust me, life sucks but AE is actually better. 🙂
