Adobe adds an AI Assistant (MCP) to After Effects Beta (Private Beta)
Posted by Roland R. kahlenberg on August 1, 2026 at 7:59 amAdobe adds AI Assistant to After Effects – the AI Assistant is also in Premiere Beta. It’s an Invitation-Only Access but will be available in the Public Beta in due time.
The AI Assistant is an MCP – if this is new to you then it’s time to buckle up. It’s a tool and what it does or can do depends largely on you.

This is the coolest AI feature I have tested in a long time. 🤯✨ I got early access to the new AI assistant that Adobe built directly inside of After Effects. It is not public yet, but it is absolutely … Continue reading

August 1, 2026 at 2:53 pmHey Roland,
Thank you for sharing.
Admittedly, it looks crazy good; more importantly, a good indicator of what is to come.
But the question with Adobe is always: At what extra cost in form of A.I. tokens or add-on subscriptions?
However, if anyone needs an education of what happens when Creative A.I. meets Agentic A.I., hit that link and watch Ariane’s video tutorial.
Will this be the end of plug-ins for masking and grading as we know it?
Will the likes of Avid and Davinci respond with built in local LLMs that won’t need an exstra subscription, but computing power?
It is a new world that continues to open wider.
Question:
Who here is up for a COW Meet/Zoom/Teams Roundtable on A.I. in Production and Post? What says the farmer @brieclayton ?

August 2, 2026 at 8:10 amHi Mads, a COW get-together to chat about AI is a good idea and I’d certainly support it and make myself available.
BlackMagic Design are very much deploying AI so are The Foundry and Autodesk. Maxon got a lot of pushback when they wanted to add AI features into C4D – not sure how that’s coming along.
Adobe is certainly into it but AI is the tech and how they deploy and with what tools is what I’m looking at.
These AI Assistants Adobe have added to Ps, Pr, Ai, Id and now Ae are MCPs and technically, they’re a bridge and a bridge does nothing but allow data to pass through, two ways. What’s critical are the tools they build and allow to cross this bridge as these define what can be done using their MCP/AI Assistant. There are also about 3 other Ae MCPs out there and these have been around since very early this year.
The critical questions are –
– who are the target users – I set up Ae users into 5 groups –
Early Adopter
Content Creator
Intermediate User
Pro User
Expert user– how AEAI performs, as a tool that provides solutions for users within each of the 5 groups

August 2, 2026 at 2:41 pmI am most certainly available to participate in an AI in Post Roundtable! We’ll have to talk to decide on a date, and see who else might like to join. Great idea!

August 5, 2026 at 8:04 amOh my. Wow. That’s so, so awful.
The one element of AI I can acknowledge has some use is for inspiration/draft concepts and this is the opposite. She even acknowledges you have to have some knowledge of AE to get the best use out of it.
I’ve done demo videos and I know it’s never going to be your best work, but seriously? Organising folders, comp sizes and adding text animations?? We are bankrupting our future for voice to text and laziness. I clicked on the video expecting to see something inspiring, something unique that only a mega corp like Adobe could come up with. It used Replace Color to match the dancer to the sky!
Anyone bought any RAM lately?

August 7, 2026 at 5:57 amAEAI is now available in the Public Beta.
First thoughts – It’s not bad. It’s slow. It’s got a Token Gas Tank that runs out pretty fast – no gas tank indicator nor when it’s available again.
It can create Textures – uses Adobe Firefly
It can write Responsive Expressions
It can do alignments even with differently sized layers
It does multi-layer, geometric layouts
It does a good job organizing objects in the project panel
It renames layers intelligently – it takes a snapshot of your comp and uses this for renaming and other tasksWe’ll cover more when the COW goes LIVE for 90 Minutes where we’ll dig into AEAI and AI in Post.
Keep an eye, finger, mouse out for The Announcement. -

August 7, 2026 at 9:00 amSorry Roland, but to counter:
It can create Textures – uses Adobe Firefly
Firefly uses Adobe Stock as its training database, which allows for AI generated images to be uploaded. There are multiple lawsuits ongoing due to how non-Adobe genAI acquired the training images.
It can write Responsive Expressions
So? It used to be a quick Google search or CreativeCow post would get you useful expressions. Until Google Search was made worse to service advertising.
It can do alignments even with differently sized layers
So can the align tools
It does multi-layer, geometric layouts
OK. Not something I need or want or see that often.
It does a good job organizing objects in the project panel
From the video, you already have to organise your assets in a folder outside AE. If someone needs AE for that, then they don’t know how to use AE.
It renames layers intelligently – it takes a snapshot of your comp and uses this for renaming and other tasks
Not a great argument. “I’m so lazy, I’ll get AI to name a layer”
It’s all fluff, and only the expressions adds anything. But because the AI did that for you, good luck adapting it.

August 7, 2026 at 9:32 amHello,
I apologize if I’m venturing outside my area of expertise, but I’ve already written a post about these MCP adds on the Blender forum, and I don’t think the situation here is different. The main point is that these adds save you the trouble of copying and pasting scripts from AI generators into the software. Saying they make the entire program AI-controlled is simply untrue. Furthermore, as far as I know, with this Connection method, there’s no way to modify the script or fix errors; you either have to accept what you get the first time or start over. Unlike generating and copying a script, where you still retain control over a large part of the process, this is what I know so far. I hope someone with experience using that can confirm or refute this. I asked the same question on the Blender forum and haven’t received an answer yet.

August 7, 2026 at 10:16 amFortunately, expressions in After Effects can be edited and disabled. Scripts run a series of actions, so it’s not the same. While you can edit a script outside After Effects (and when you get the hang of it, they can be self explanatory) you have to have some coding knowledge to do so. I must admit, long before LLM AI, I copy-and-paste whole sections of scripts that I just about understand. But at least I know what bits to copy. That’s probably the same with AI in fairness.
