Yes I know, It happens,,,, and sometimes you just have too…

But just the thought of running clumsy windows on a Mac,, doesn’t it make you ill..

Only to someone whose view of the computer world is about as diverse as their predictability.

Here’s just an example of why this is a GOOD thing, from TODAY’s real world example here at the COW: We need to high speed scan thousands of pages of documents for a trademark legal fight we are fighting against someone trying to encroach upon our trademark. We needed a high-speed scanner that can do pages a minute, rather than the typical flatbed scanners that do little faster than a page a minute. We found a Xerox 510 scanner. Mac support? None. Windows only.

Thank God we are not limited to being Mac fanboys and know where a Mac is great but hardly make it our religion. We bought the Xerox 510 and run it under Windows.

So you spent $300 bucks on a scanner, Ok been there done that, and you are running it on a Mac under Windows? Why not on a PC.. I have read many places that you can not put together a PC with the same kick for the price of a Mac Pro.. And that is more than just a hardware issue, it is a Mac design issue, that has a long legacy of working great.. Thank you Mr. Jobs.

I will have my new Mac Pro sometime in June and do look forward to running my ‘fav’ graphics program Inscriber… Inscriber does a lot and it would be even greater if I can run it on the Mac and not a clumsy PC..

Yes, I am a fan of well designed hardware and the software to make it run… Let’s just call it a clean design with a purpose… So yes I am a proud #2 Mac Fan Boy and I take my hat off to the #1 Mac fan boy senior and his new forum…….

Wow. You’re really suggesting that, in addition to the cost of the scanner, they buy a PC just to run it on when Windows on a Mac is the same thing as running it on a PC? Where’s the logic in that?

Since the switch to Intel chips, Macs are PCs. That’s all there is to it. The only difference is the OS. That’s why you can install OSX on a PC now, given the right hardware. It’s called a Hackintosh. Otherwise, the systems are using the same hardware.

I understand that people like their Macs, and the machines are nice look at, but suggesting someone buy a whole seperate system just to run a scanner when their Mac, booting into Windows, will do it fine is nuts. Windows is really so bad you dare not install is on a Mac?

My point was to show an example of what is available for PC users that is NOT available for Mac users. Again, that was my point.

And as Michael Hancock points out, Macs are now PCs. Running Windows in addition to the Mac OS is a benefit, not a liability.

To be honest, I use Macs as my main machines. I also use some of them with Windows dual-booting on them, and also have PCs with Windows only — and a bunch of PCs running Linux only. I even have an Xserve running Leopard Server. In the end, I could care less whose OS is on something; me, I just want to get a particular job done and whichever one does that, that is what I am going to use.

Aharon who hosts the new forum is a PC user, hardly someone who would see himself as wearing the #1 Mac Fanboy title. He just began using Macs when they changed to the latest iteration of the Intel architecture.

But yes, you are right, Apple does make great machines — it’s why they cost more and I and others are willing to pay more. (Even though I do use PCs when and where it does make more sense.)

Lastly, when you get around to running Inscriber on a Mac, it will be just as clumsy as it was (to quote you) “on a clumsy PC.” It’s Windows you are running on a Mac, it will still be Windows and will act like Windows. The Mac won’t do a thing to change that — in fact, it merely adds another layer of complexity and issues to the whole thing.
