  • Adjustment Layer with Blur and Feathered Mask, Feather Doesn’t Show up

    Hi everyone,
I’m working on a major school project which is due in a few days and i’m stuck on something. I’d appreciate any advice.

Basically, I have an adjustment layer with the fast blur effect on it. I’ve set up the adjustment layer as a way to blur parts of the background. I also added a mask on the adjustment layer with a feather so that the part of the layer closer to the foreground is sharper. However, even though i’ve added a mask to the adjustment layer, my comp doesn’t show the result of the feather – it’s as if the feather isn’t there at all.

And advice would be greatly appreciated!

Adjustment Layers only work with Effects. Masks do not cut through onto its lower layers. That’s if I understand your issues correctly.

There could also be a possibility that your feather is set to too high a value.

Having said that, try this –

Apply your feathered masks on a Solid. Place this Solid as the topmost layer with its Blending Mode set to Stencil ALpha. This may do the trick for you.

You can also pre-compose / pre-comp that top layer with the blur, and then add the mask within the pre-comp.

    Cheers
