  • Adjusting shape layer whilst maintain stroke

Posted by Jack Sewell on November 3, 2010 at 10:55 am

    Hi there,

I’m just wondering if there is a way to change the overall size of a shape layer, whist maintaining it’s
stroke width. So the overall size of the shape gets bigger and smaller, but the width of the stroke stays the same.

    Many thanks……

you could try linking the stroke width to the scale of the shape with an expression.

I’m only half the thing I say I am, the other half are me.

Shape layers are extremely flexible. You can arrange Transform property groups and strokes and such in just about any order. Just move the stroke so that it’s outside of the groups affected by the scale that you’re changing.

This page shows an example of a moderately complex hierarchy in a shape layer to give you the idea.

    Hi,
You’ve probably fixed this problem by now, but for others I have created a tutorial to show the process of keeping the stroke width while animating the size of a shape. Check it out here:

It can be used for any shape created in after effects!

    Cheers!
