I can take a clip, scale it down, rotate it, and crop all around it (left, right, top, bottom) in Final Cut Pro very quickly. So, if I want to take a clip scaled down to 10%, make it rotate while it grows, and while it’s rotating have the cropped portions on the left, right, top, and bottom extend out to a 0% crop allowing the image to eventually grow to 100% and fill the frame.

How in the world can I do that in After Effects? I can put a Mask on it, but the mask doesn’t seem to have an option to key frame it’s position or scale. How hard would it be to just add a cropping option under Transform for layers in After Effects?!

Anyway, thanks for any light you can shed on this! I appreciate anyone’s time and help.

you could add 4 linear wipe effects, changing the angle of each to 0, 90, 180, and 270 to effectively create a cropping controls for 4 sides.

I would normally go the mask route, but the linear wipe method would be closer to what you are used to…
