adding zero opacity overlay darkens underlaying clip
I posted about this before, this is a very easily to reproduce behaviour of Vegas to which I never found any reference. It happens in Vegas 5 as well as 6:
Take a clip with little light, something that has been shot at night.
Put a solid color (from the media generator) in a track above it, set the transparency (alpha channel) of that clip to zero.
Look at your external preview (through firewire), while you mute or activate this overlaid (“transparent”) track: the underlaying video gets darker (while it should be unchanged). The darkening occurs in the external preview, but also when you print to tape.I never noticed this behaviour of Vegas before, untill I used a subtitling plugin on material that was really dark (everything was barely visable): in the subtitled print things that had been visible before had disappeared, the whole material was darkened.
What is happening here? It seems to me it might have something to do with setting luminance range to 0-255 versus 16-235. Is there something in Vegas that allows you to change this behaviour?
Sorry, there were no replies found.
