    Hi all
I’m trying to add video clips to my current sony vegas project.
but when I try to insert new clips I’m asked ‘do you want to replace your current project’ and then it replaces my project and uses my new clip as the new current project.
please help as this is driving me crackers.
The kind of thing that I’m trying to achieve is a sort of music video using on audio track and merging in a lot of short video tracks from different sources.
I’m using Sony Vegas movie studio HD Platinum 10
    Thanks Roy F

That is what will happen if you do it that way. its normal for that
to happen. What you then need to do is simply import the clips you want to use into vegas an drop them on the timeline and do your editing
    or manual replacement.

    Hello Steve
    thank you for your reply
When I go the project pull-down menu and select ‘import media’
the new video clip replaces the whole project I was working on so there is nothing in the project pane except the imported clip this happens whatever size clip I am importing from seconds to half and hour.I can’t add imported clip to the old timeline as this goes as soon as the new clip is imported.
and yet adding still images to the current project is no trouble.
Maybe it’s a file format problem.
I’ve tried avi and wmv so maybe mpeg will work.
I’m totally new at video editing and Sony Vegas is the first editor I’ve bought.
    Thanks again

Roy, instead of going to “file” and the drop-down list to open a project go to the “import media” icon next to the lightning flash to open the project. This will add as many clips as you want in your project media box from which you can drag-drop to the TL, Pete.

    Hi Pete
I had already tried that Import icon without success.
However now that my video files have been converted to mpg format everything seems to be okay.
Up until now my current project has been replaced (instead of added to)
by vf avi and wmv. it must be something to do with my total lack of knowledge of video editing.
Still with this newly found ability to add mpgs I can start some serious practicing and learning.
Thanks to you Pete and all the contributors to the forum.

I’m sure this forum will be very useful to me in the future and maybe one day I might be able to contribute.
