  • Adding VEG file to another project

Posted by Belinda Edwards on December 15, 2007 at 11:01 pm

I have a project with a video/audio track. I want to add a VEG file from another project, and put it at the beginning of this one. The VEG file that I want to put at the beginning of the project is only video. I need to know how to place it there. I tried to set ripple on, and drop it onto the video track, and it did, but the audio did not move with the existing video track. I then tried select all, and drop on video timeline, and still the same thing. Is it because there is no audio track with the video I am dropping in?

Sounds like you have activated the “ignore event grouping” button. Make sure that it is not selected. You will find the ignore event grouping button pretty close to where your ripple button is.

Nope, ignore even grouping in not chosen. Ripple is, though. I have had hard time with alot of things in version 8, that I never seemed to have had in version 8. Any other advise. I have to have this wedding video done in the next 2 days.

    Belinda,

I just did a simulation of what you are trying to do.
    I had no problem.
The audio moved in sync with the video.
    This was my workflow.

1)My video and audio clip are on the timeline.
2)I went to the the explorer tab click and drag my veg
file that had video only onto the video track basically
dropping it on top of the existing video track.
The veg event is now in front of the existing event.
The existing video has moved down as well as the audio
    with it.

Ripple was turned on and the ignore event grouping button is
    out.

If this does not work for you then repost again with
a step by step description of your workflow.

    Regards, Rick.

I tried again and no go.
Track #1 – 42 min of wedding video
    Track 2 – 42 min of audio
    Track 3 – nothing till 41 min/then 60sec still clip
    Track 4 – nothing till 41 min/then 60sec still clip
track 3 & 4 used for last min of video for credits
Track 5 – 42 min audio clip that I have been playing with.

When I tried again. Same thing, only the video moved, nothing else on any other track moved. I have ripple edit turned on, and ignore event grouping is not turned on. I am going to try turning off the computer and re-booting and see what happens. I have never had these problems till I upgraded to version 8. Nope, I just did a re-start of the computer, and still the same problem.

Hello Belinda. When you click on the down arrow on the tool bar line next to the “Auto Ripple” button, you get a set of options on what type of Ripple you want to enable.

The drop down gives you the following (in Vegas 8) options:
    Affected Tracks
Affected Tracks, Bus Tracks, Markers, and Regions (sic)
All Tracks, Markers, and Regions (sic)

Make sure “All Tracks” is selected and you will be fine.
