adding to the beginning of a video without messing up proceeding footage?
so, say i have my video in place, with a cross dissolve or something. then i decide i want to add a title. if i drag it into the beginning, it erases my cross dissolve, and seems to shorten the proceeding clip.
i right clicked on the item to add, and hit “insert” or something, and this worked.what if i’m adding multiple titles and effects into the beginning over existing footage? what’s the best way to “bump” everything over to the right as a unit, or “slide” everything back to the left as a unit, without expanding clips or shrinking clips.
can’t seem to get the right method for this.

insert edit (.) is the best way to add a clip into the timeline pushing everything away from the insert point (the playhead) down the timeline by the length of the clip inserted.
To do this with a group of clips you must hold the ctrl key while you drag and drop into the timeline.
To delete something and pull everything in by the gap of the deleted clip do a ripple delete (shift+del) on the highlighted clip.

You could also use the TRACK SELECT tool (keyboard shortcut A) hold shift and drag all the clips in your timeline further down, creating more space at the beginning. However, Jon’s way is probably better. =)
