I’ve always wanted to add some texture to my shape layer animations, but I wonder what the best way is to do so. In this video for example: https://vimeo.com/68903399 the green thing at 0:08 looks like some kind of cloth. Does anyone know how to achieve a look like this?

You could use the shape layer as a track matte for a texture.

Both BorisFX Contiuum Complete and GenArts Sapphire have texturizing effects.

In that example, the entire animation has been overlaid with a texture layer. So you just need a texture that you like and put it as the top layer, in Overlay mode, or possibly Soft light, at low opacity, 10-25% or so.
