    Hey everyone.

I have a 2011 (can’t remember if it’s late or early) unibody Macbook Pro.

I’m trying to make it more usable for editing with Premiere. Maxing out memory is going to happen, but I also want to get rid of the awful 5200rpm drive.

So I’m looking at replacing that with an SSD and would like to also replace the DVD drive with an SSD. I’ve read that the DVD drive has a slower connection, at 3Gbps instead of 6. For anyone in the know, I wanted to ask a couple of questions:

    1) What’s the best way to utilize the faster drive vs the slower one? Should I install OS and applications on the slower SSD and keep media and projects on the faster? Or the other way around?

    2) Any recommendations for SSDs for this purpose?

Thanks for the help. Hooray for the Cow!

Been happy with the Samsung 840 Pro SSD’s. Good warranty. I have chosen to stay away from the Chronos deluxe SSD’s. I have had two go bad in the past few months. Also take a look at OWC as they have SSD kits for your MBP. Don’t forget to install trim enabler once your SSD’s have been installed. https://www.cindori.org/software/trimenabler/
