Hi all. I’m using pro9. I recently recorded a dance concert. In one act the performer forgot to turn on her mic – hence perfect music from the theatre’s mixer, good video of the performer, but no sound from her mouth.
I’ve suggested that she comes round and I can dub her voice onto a new audio track, checking carefully her lipsinc on the monitor.
My question is -Can this actually be done ? I’m using Sont V1P with Rode mic using phantom power. I was hoping she could watch her performance on the monitor with headphones, while I record her voice via the camera straight on to the new time line.
    Advice appreciated

While this will work, it is not the optimal way to do this because you will be capturing video and audio just to get the audio, and you will have to manually sync it later, but in a pinch, it’s no different than capturing from a tape. Vegas will be none the wiser that the camera is shooting live.

The better way to do this would be to record the audio right into the Vegas timeline using an ASIO audio interface and microphone but it sounds like you don’t have one. You could try plugging the Rode mic into your motherboard sounds chip but those are usually noisy and not suitable for professional recording.

Thanks for the advice. You were quite correct in assuming I didn’t have an ASIO card. After reading your response, I went out and purchased one – now all works good.
