How should one size an image for use in a Vegas project and how does Vegas handle images?

Should you size it to the dimensions you are planning to render the video, or will Vegas automatically stretch the photo to fit. Should you use the highest resolution you have or downsize it?

I am mostly rendering these clips for the web, but my question also applies for a DVD type project?

    Thanks

When you drop it on the timeline, Vegas will automatically resize it so that it will ALL fit on the screen. This may, or may not, be what you want.

Open Pan/Crop, right-click the image there, and pick “Match Output Aspect”. Now use Pan/Crop to zoom in/out as desired. Once you have the proper zoom set, you can use Track Motion to reposition the image as desired.

    Thank you for that,

So in the case where you want it to be seamless with the video, such as with a image with voice-over, or credit, should you only be concerned with matching the aspect ratio of the image and video files?

I have had some difficulty to get it to look just right, sometimes, it has some black on top or bottom, and it always has a thin white outline. In this case, I want it to match the frame of the video exactly.

Set the “Match Output Aspect” and resize as needed and I think you’ll be fine.
