Adding image file to timeline

Is the gif layer below the avi? If so the video is blocking the gif. Drag the gif to the top of the stack and it will be seen first.

Or…

Is the gif layer long enough? Maybe your down the timeline and the gif is only a few frames long. Drag the right hand edge of the layer to the right to lengthen it.

Also, a GIF is very limited in terms of transparency, I’m not even sure if AE supports GIF transparency (because I don’t use GIFs, kind of a catch 22), but I can tell you that any transparency in a GIF file is defined by a color in the RGB channels and is thus either on or off, 0 or 1.

Have you considered using a different format? TIF or TGA maybe?

Hi Mike,
I moved the Gif on top of the video and it now the video appears fine on top of Gif. But the Gif is still coming out very dark and not the original colors. How do I adjust that?

And both the gif and video have equal lengths in the timeline, so no probs there.

Thanks for your inputs. I have tried the tif or tga formats. But i could save the gif file in the other formats as well. I am not sure if it will help.

I forgot to mention when I move the gif on top of the video. I loose the audio of the video. I am not sure why. But i tried making the video as the parent and it still did not work. 🙁

i would try to get the gif into another format, as mentioned before. tiff, targa, png and psd all support transparency, if necessary, and support a larger number of colors than gif (which may be part of your problem).

the audio issue seems pretty strange…. i will say that you’re usually better off keeping your audio separate from you video, and keeping your audio uncompressed (wav or aiff). can you use an editing program to separate your audio and export as a wav or aiff?

Hi Kevin,

Thnx for the suggestions. I have already changed the file format to tiff. The image still comes out as dull. I have set the opacity to 20%. But if I increase the same then the image looks very bad.

As for the audio, i can’t seperate it from the video. But all I want is when I do a Composition –> Make Movie , it should appear in the new movie that I am creating. But for some reason it is lost.

Looking into the same.

did you enable ausio in the output module?

ae doesn’t automaticly render audio, even when it is present in the comp… when you ‘make movie’ click the output module (probably says lossless). that opens the output module settings… at the bottom are the audio options. enble render audio, and set the appropriate audio rate (same as source rate). you should get audio in your render.
