adding grain to shots
Posted by Evans Briceño on January 18, 2013 at 12:17 amHi guys, can anyone help me up on how can I add some grain texture to clips? I made a Noise B&W clip from AF long enough to use it in Davinci 9 but I don’t know exactly what is the procedure to apply the effect.
Thanks in advance.

January 21, 2013 at 4:04 amThanks Joseph for the info, unfurtunatelly I followed every step but one in particular is a mistery:
one of the ways to do the process is directly in the node’s window. Juan Salvo says if you right click on a new serial node it will show a contextual submenu with the “add as matte” option. Niether me or other guys (you can check the vimeo page’s comments) have this option in this contextual submenu. I don’t know why. There is no way I can make it appear to apply the composite effect.
any sugestions?

January 21, 2013 at 4:23 amYou need to add the matte clip in the media browser page. Maybe one day I’ll put another video with this, but it is covered in the manual. Just look up add as matte.

January 21, 2013 at 4:43 amYou need to add it to each clip you want to use.
Here is a post from Dwaine about this:
https://forums.creativecow.net/thread/277/7498Also read through the manual about this.
Basically if you add a clip as matte without a destination clip selected, you can only use it in track mode.
You need to add the matte clip to each clip you want to use it on. In v9.1 you can add it to many clips at once.

January 21, 2013 at 5:00 amHere is how Alexis himself wrote it up in the manual (on page 112):
you have a clip from a VFX system there is occasionally an associated matte file. By using ‘Add as Matte’ you place the file in the Media Pool with the correct identification, shown as a Mask icon so that DaVinci Resolve can use the file as a matte. After you have placed the main image clip into the Media Pool, highlight the clip. Then find the matte in the Clip Details display, Right-click on that matte and select ‘Add as Matte.’ In the Media Pool, the main clip will have a cyan box just before the clip name and if you Double-click the main clip, the associated matte will be shown with the Mask icon; it is linked to the main clip.
To add an external matte to a clip in the Media Pool:
1. Select a clip in the Media Pool to which you want to attach an external matte.
2. Select the matching external matte file in the Library browser, Right-click it, and choose Add as Matte.Colorist | Online Editor | Post Super | VFX Artist | BD Author

January 21, 2013 at 5:33 amFINALLY……!
the big problem was the method of clicking all movies I wished to apply and second when I first red the dwaine’s explanation, was the name of the window… I was looking for “clip details” and no for “Library Window” wich is how is name it. it was stupid on me but… semantics….Thanks Juan.. I apreciate your patience and effort. I’m shure some of the forum will save time with this clarify.
best regards
