  • Adding effects to text layers

    Hi!

I wanna make karaoke-like effects with a text layer and I have to questions:

The firs one is, for example, that if I add a simple blur effect, the effect affect to all the line and not by “syllabes”. I mean, I wanna make the effect “the way it’s singed”. For example in the word “cons-ter-na-tion” you sing 4 syllabes. I mean something like that that not implies to create one text layer to EVEREY single one syllabe. The karaoke has a total of 30 lines or so.

The second one is to the preset effects. Is there any way to make the range selector works by “syllabes”? I mean, when you are working with the Range Selector, you can only select characters, words and lines. But when you sing “cons-ter-na-tion” and you add an increment in every syllabe, you want to incrementate them this way: CONS-TER-NA-TION not like this C-O-N-S T-E-R N-A T-I-O-N.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hello,

I’m not sure exactly what you are trying to do, but you can’t get FCP blur to ‘follow’ along with syllables. The closest you can come to this would be to create 2matching layers-the top one with the text & blur and the bottom with just the text. Then you would ‘wipe’ or ‘crop’ off the top ‘blur’ layer to reveal the bottom layer.

    No, sorry.
That’s why you paid a lot of money for those Kararoke DVDs! 😛

To extend on that, because you might be able to see through the blurred layer, you can use it as an inverted track matte on the non-blurred layer.

You could use the write-on effect, but maybe something else would be easier.

Also, see this article on markers, which could be a good way to get your timing right:

I’m still very new to After Effects but it seems to me that you should be able to create keyframes of your music and use those keyframes to animate your blur or whatever you use to highlight the syllable in question. There might be some useful info in this tutorial: https://forums.creativecow.net/cgi-bin/page_wrapper.cgi?forumid=1&page=https://www.creativecow.net/articles/al_khatib_talid/volume_meter/index.html

I could be way off the mark here. Like I said, I’m still very new at this.
