Adding effect like lens flare to ADJUSTMENT LAYER on Video Footage
Hi guys,
I’ve been trying to add effects to a COMP i made from a PAL video footage. All I want to achieve is to be able to make the effect last a certain period of time and then be able to have it stop.
I read that using an adjustment layer was the way to go.
But when I have, say, COMP1 and then add an ADJUSTMENT LAYER to that…and then add an effect (eg.lens flare)to the adjustment layer… I CANT SEE IT!
I only see the lens flare when I put it directly onto the COMP1.What am I doing wrong? Can somebody help please?

Adjustment layers have a transparent Alpha and effects that do not calculate Alpha don’t show. In your case don’t use an Adjustment layer. Put your lens flare on a normal black solid and use the add or screen blend mode.

Thanks for that advice. I tried it but it didn’t work for me. Am I doing something wrong I wonder?
I have added a solid black layer and added the effect to that layer and used blend mode ADD and SCREEN but it doesn’t show…
Any other ideas?
All I want to do is be able to add lighting to a video footage and be able to control when I can turn it on and off…

“It doesn’t show” meaning you still see your video but not the flare? When you added the black solid, did you see it? It’s supposed to hide your footage, so I wonder if you haven’t put it underneath by mistake. You can also apply a Render-Lens Flare effect directly to the footage layer.
Not sure what you’re doing wrong, but frankly this is RTFM stuff 🙂 Or the Calf…
