    Hi all,

I have a situation where I’m dealing with reference QT files containing multiple shots that have the QT frame burn-ins, but I’ve been tasked with removing the burn-in the client provided and generating a new one for our in-house artists to use for reference and have it applied to every individual shot in the QT. To do this, I’ve spliced the QT with a Scene Cut Detection, then I’ve created a black solid colour and re-shaped it to fit over the old timecode. Then, I convert it to a compound clip and open it within fusion and apply a custom text field expression. The expression I use is “time – (whatever the current frame is, + 1), this essentially brings the frame count to 1 and counts upwards. Then I repeat this process for every single individual clip contained within the reference QT.

As you can imagine, this is a bit tedious and cumbersome and I’m sure there must be a simpler way to do it within Resolve. A colleague of mine using Avid showed me a built in frame-numbering tool that simplifies this process tremendously and I have to assume there must be a simpler way to accomplish the same thing within resolve.

    Does anyone have an ideas?

Yes I believe there is a quicker way to do what you are trying to achieve: use Data burn-in function. You can find it under the Workspace menu. It will allow you to create a background at the same time than outputting the TC information you need. When you are ready to deliver, don’t forget to check in the Data burn-in box in the output parameters.
