  • Adding columns in Final Cut Pro TEXT using “*”

Trying to locate this little tip where in Final Cut Pro using the text generator, you somehow add and “*” in between the names to create evenly spaced columns for ending credits

    EXAMPLE

    John Doe as himself
    Billy Doe as himself

    IN FCP

    John Doe*as himself

What’s the actual tip to make this work right?

You have basically got it, however the * only works when using Centre justify.

    Mike,
Wise FCP’ers never use the standard text generator for this….

Use Title 3D and you will be able to make multiple columns. Just drag out tab stops from the top left corner of the interface. Use the tab key.

You do have Title 3D installed, don’t you?

Legacy title generators are really only useful for restoring old projects these days.

I just realized the CENTER ONLY thing….my apologies…

I have to re-get the font used under a different format… the font works under basic text but doesn’t show under 3d text tool was all….

I’ll persue the TABS in 3d text tool

    Thanks guys…

Just did credits for a movie going to a festival next week. The client wanted to use what she was ‘confortable with’ FCP Text….. So we cut and pasted ‘Actors names _ people names’ from Microsoft Yuk Word… We selected text in Word>copied>pasted into FCP Text> select all > right justify all> add neccessary space bar spaces to move left column to left and eye a straight up and down line> select all > justify center…. You will have two columns that will roll as long as you have names to roll in the center of your screen and it looks really good..

And I have Boris Red 3gl and Live Type and Title 3D..

And the client is very happy..

    Fun stuff
