  • Adding closed captioning

Posted by Matt Forcier on September 1, 2010 at 8:41 pm

    Hey Everyone,

I am doing a series of short 90 second video segments and I am trying to export them in Vegas in a way that allows me to have closed captioning. Honestly, I’m not even sure where to begin. Each video includes one interview, and my client requires us to have close captioning before putting the video on the website. Any help would be much appreciated!

    Thanks,
    Matt

    Vegas doesn’t do closed captioning.
    Maybe you mean subtitles?

When I go into Vegas (help section), it says I can add Closed Captioning to a streaming windows media video, so I thought it was possible, but maybe I misunderstood?

Matt, you didn’t misunderstand it at all.
Apparently this can be done but it’s not a feature I’ve ever experimented with.
I believe the manual goes into more detail than the online help file so have a look at it and see if it explains things any better.

Vegas Pro 9.0e supports closed captioning by using Command markers with the new 608CC1, 608CC2, 608CC3, & 608CC4 commands. When you render it will embed the markers into XDCAM or create an industry standard Scenarist .scc files for formats that don’t support CC.

Not sure what you are looking for?

    Closed Captioning for TV broadcast?
Closed Captioning for Webcast(like YouTube, QuickTime, WMP, RealPlayer)?
    Subtitles for DVD?

9.0d and beyond can create .scc and embedded CC into HD MXF
file for broadcast. Vegas 9.0d and 9.0e do not embedded CC into MPEG2 for SD broadcast.

Does Vegas 10 support 608cc1 to mpeg hard captioning, (rendered in not optional)?
