  • Adding bounce/elasticity to tracked null object

Posted by Lance Gambis on October 8, 2013 at 6:11 pm

I have an object (graphic) this is tracking another object using motion tracking. How do I insert some elasticity/bounce/delay between the graphic and the object it is tracking. Not sure if I’m explaining myself correctly. More specifically, I have someone walking and being followed by a dark cloud. But I want to inject a natural/organic movement into how the cloud moves over the person.

Perhaps I’m not using the right search terms but I could not find
    anything.

Thanks for any help or for pointing out any tuts that might put me on the right path.

Add the Point Expression Control to the tracked layer. Then add the following Expression to its Position property –

    value+effect("Point Control")("Point")

You should now be able to manually add keyframes to Point Control, to offset the original tracking data.

Instead of the method I specified in the earlier post, you could also offset the tracked position by keyframing the Anchor Point.

For realistic interactions you can test Newton- it can provide you with the natural feel you’re after.
